Louisiana
The State of Louisiana enacted Act 636
in 2006. The act authorizes the State to issue a cease and desist order if an employer is
found to have hired illegal workers. It allows a State agency or department to conduct an
investigation into the hiring practices of a Louisiana business which has 10 or more
employees. If an employer violates a cease and desist order, it may face penalties of up
to $10,000 and/or the suspension of its business license
